Our little non-traditional baby shower

When our best friends told us they were expecting a little bundle of joy, we couldn't wait to throw them a baby shower. (A first for me) But we didn't want to do the traditional pink for girls/blue for boys, ladies only, weird baby game kind of shower. We decided to break with those old traditions and have a co-ed, small, sophisticated fete.

Color is the best way to define the party. Our friends are having a girl (the first baby girl to come into our circle of friends!) and we went with a lime green, brown, and white color scheme. Not only is this decidedly un-girly, but also not necessarily a harvest, fall color palate. We also used owls and polka dots to add a little bit of whimsey to the overall theme. Being on a tight budget, we used small paper lanterns and balloons to decorate our apartment.

I found the most adorable print-your-own decorations from Etsy that really helped pull our theme together.

We used a buffet table in my office for all our delicious offerings.

A good friend gave this cool appetizer server for a wedding gift. You can find similar ones here.

Judging by the looks on their faces, I think they were pleasantly surprised :)

P.S. A big thanks to my husband and other best bud, Jess, for helping to bring the vision to life. I would've gone crazy trying to do everything myself!
